The reference photo for this painting of a Cape Buffalo was taken by my son, Gareth Rasberry, in Kruger National Park, during a family trip to South Africa in 2012. What really appealed to me about this picture is the amazing blue reflections of the sky in the shiny parts of the buffalo's horns, contrasting with the warm orange light in the late day sun on the tall winter grasses. It is a large painting to reflect the great size of this animal. Indeed a giant.
