My painting "Winter Coat" was juried into the 3rd Annual North Carolina Statewide Pastel Exhibition in May 2014, held in Charlotte, NC. It recieved an Award of Excellence, and was also sold at the same show.
It also recieved the Best in Show at the Piedmont Pastel Society's annual Member Calendar Show, November 2013, in Charlotte, NC, and was featured on the cover of the calendar.
Judge Barbara Courtney Jaenicke's comments on the paintings were: "The exceptional handling of the light and shadow throughout the painting, along with values and color temperatures that are spot on, made this a winner! It's a stunning piece, skillfully handled, that holds the viewers attention".
I loved the contrast of sunlight and shadow on the heavy blanket of snow, and the contours created by the snow crushing the reeds.
